FAQ
We hope this Frequently Asked Questions page is helpful! If your question isn't answered here, feel free to reach out to library staff and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. (802) 899-4686; library@jerichotownlibraryvt.org.
ACCOUNT
How do I log into my account?
Look for the "Sign In" button at the top right corner of this website. Your barcode number is found on the back of your library card: include punctuation, and those are zeros, not the letter O. The default password is your last name, all lowercase.
How do I get a library card?
Jericho residents can easily get a JTL card in person, over the phone, or via email. All we need is a bit of contact info from you, so come to the library, call (802) 899-4686, or email library@jerichotownlibraryvt.org to get set up.
Where can I use my library card?
JTL is part of the Homecard network, which allows you to check out books from nearly every library in Chittenden, Franklin, Addison, Grand Isle, and Lamoille counties. That includes all the nearby libraries in Essex, Williston, Richmond, Westford, and many more! All you need to do is show your JTL card or say your name at check-out.
I have a card from Deborah Rawson Memorial Library. Can I check books out at Jericho Town Library?
Yes, DRML patrons can also check books out from JTL, as well as all the Homecard libraries listed above. However, DRML uses a different computer system than most other libraries in the county. The first time you visit JTL or another Homecard library, please bring your DRML card so we can add your info to the shared Homecard library system. After that, you'll be all set!
CIRCULATION
How long are materials checked out for?
All materials are checked out for a period of three weeks. This includes new materials, books, DVDs, audiobooks, games, etc.
How do I renew something?
Nearly all JTL materials are set up for automatic renewal, meaning items will be renewed automatically on their due date as long as someone else hasn't placed a hold on them. After your initial three-week checkout period, you get five automatic renewals of one week each before an item is considered overdue. You will still get an "item due soon" email to remind you what you have checked out, but the renewal process happens completely automatically.
How do I place a hold on a book?
Jericho Town Library patrons can place holds on items that are in our collection or at local libraries. To place a hold, start by logging into your account and searching for the item you want in the catalog. Under the item info, click on the blue "Place Hold" button. If the item is available as an eBook or audiobook, it will say on that same page; you can also click "More Locations" where it is available at local libraries. Please note that patrons whose primary library is Deborah Rawson Memorial Library will not be able to place holds online, since DRML uses a different computer system than most local libraries. In that case, feel free to give us a call and we are happy to manually place the hold for you
How do I return books?
During open hours, please bring your books into the library and return them inside. There is a drop box outside where you can return books after hours.
How do I pay for an overdue, lost, or damaged book?
JTL is proudly a fine-free library, meaning we do not charge for overdue books. However, we hope patrons will return this policy with taking responsibility for the replacement fee of lost or damaged books. You can pay a lost/damaged item fee by cash, check made out to Jericho Town Library, or Venmo: @jtl-donate. Your fee amount will be displayed in your online account under "Fines and Messages."
How do I place an interlibrary loan request?
If an item is available at a nearby library, please endeavor to check it out from them yourself. Interlibrary loans typically take 2-3 weeks to arrive, and it is more time efficient for everyone if you are able to pick it up there. If an item isn't locally available, send us an email and we are more than happy to request it for you. Even if an item isn't showing up at all in the online catalog, we might be able to get it for you: the interlibrary loan system pulls from a separate catalog network that includes the collections at academic, institutional, and out-of-state libraries.
GENERAL
How do I suggest books for you to add to the collection?
We love getting recommendations for new materials. Fill out this form to make a suggestion. We can't fulfill every request, but we will try our best.
Do you accept book donations?
We accept donations of bestselling hardcover books that are in excellent condition and were published within the past two years. We are a small library and have to be conscious of our space.
Does the library have a meeting space available for public groups to use?
The upstairs multi-purpose room is a great space for groups of up to 15 people to meet. Renovated in 2019, the space features a microwave and mini fridge, moveable tables and chairs, and electrical outlets throughout. Projector and screen available upon request. Reach out to the Library Director if you'd like to talk about using the meeting space for your group. (As of January 2022, the meeting space is on a very case-by-case basis due to the recent surge in local Covid cases).
How can I volunteer at the library?
Reach out to the Library Director if you'd like to volunteer! We all bring different gifts to the table, so whether you'd like to work at the circulation desk, host a fundraiser, weed the garden, or something entirely different, we are grateful for your interest in helping out.
